These capsules are one of a group of medicines called 'laxatives'.They are usually used to prevent and treat constipation that has lasted for a long time. These capsules may also be used to help you go to the toilet if you have piles (haemorrhoids), or to empty your bowels before a stomach X-ray. Ask your doctor if you want more information.

Taking your medicine – Read the instructions on the label about how to take your medicine. If you are not sure about anything, ask your pharmacist. – The usual dose for adults is up to five capsules a day taken in divided doses. – Reduce the dose as your condition gets better. – When using this medicine before having a stomach X-ray, you should take four capsules. – Swallow these capsules whole with a drink of water. – If you accidentally take an overdose, drink lots of water and contact your nearest accident and emergency department, or tell your doctor immediately. Children: NOT RECOMMENDED.

We would advise that you see a doctor regarding your constipation if this continues long-term or you require use of laxatives on a regular basis, as there may be an underlying cause that needs to be investigated.

Children under 12 years of age. People with nausea, vomiting or persistant abdominal pain. People with a blockage in the gut (intestinal obstruction). Rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance (Dioctyl capsules contain fructose and sorbitol). You should carefully read all product packaging and labels prior to use!
