Dulco-lax Suppositories gently bring fast and effective relief from constipation, helping your child's body back to working normally.
Dulco-lax is a stimulant laxative. It is specially formulated to act on the wall of the bowel encouraging smooth movement. The simple, once daily dose, introduced in the morning will reliably and predictably relieve constipation. A bowel movement would usually be expected in fifteen minutes to one hour following insertion of a Dulco-lax suppository.
Directions
Dulcolax Laxative Suppositories 5mg
Children under 10 years, one 5mg suppository inserted into the rectum in the morning, or as directed by your doctor
Adults and children over 10 years - One 10mg suppository inserted into the rectum in the morning.
Directions for use :
Remove foil wrapping
Lie on your left side and draw your knees up towards your chest, with your right leg drawn up a little more than your left.
Using your forefinger (index finger) or middle finger, whichever you find easier, gently push the suppository into the rectum, pointed end first. The suppository should be inserted as far as possible, pushing the end of the suppository side-ways to ensure contact with the wall of your bowel.
Lower your legs to a comfortable position to help you to hold the suppository in place.
Retain the suppository for fifteen to twenty minutes if possible. If you feel the suppository must come out immediately, it has not been inserted high enough.
You may feel an immediate urge to go to the toilet. Do not respond to this feeling as the suppository will not work for at least fifteen minutes.
We would advise that you see a doctor regarding your constipation if this continues long-term or you require use of laxatives on a regular basis, as there may be an underlying cause that needs to be investigated.
Warnings
Dulcolax Laxative Suppositories 5mg
Caution :
If laxatives are needed every day, or there is persistent pain, consult your doctor. Prolonged use should be avoided. Dulco-lax has been in general use for many years and there is no evidence of ill-consequence in pregnancy. However, as a general rule medicines should be avoided in pregnancy, especially during the first 3 months, except on the advice of your doctor.
Constipation :
Regular bowel evacuation is generally considered to be important to the health of the individual. Just what is 'regular' may vary from person to person. Some may experience bowel movement daily, others less frequently. It is the regularity of the pattern for each individual that is desirable.
Constipation is an occasional problem for most people. For some it may be a more frequent occurrence. Constipation can be caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, regularly resisting the desire for bowel movement, loss of 'tone' of the bowel muscles in later years, pregnancy or possibly as a result of any prolonged illness when long periods of time have to be spent confined to bed.
The likelihood of constipation can be reduced by a healthy diet which should include high fibre content foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables and bran-containing products. Regular exercise, properly geared to the age and fitness of the individual, is also particularly helpful.
Whatever the cause, constipation is an uncomfortable condition which can be the cause of headaches and the feeling of heaviness and being generally 'off-colour'.
When the body needs help to restore its regular bowel function, Dulco-lax provides an answer.
