Nivaquine Syrup - Chloroquine Sulphate
Nivaquine is a preparation of chloroquine sulphate and is used for the prevention of malaria. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes. Some mosquitoes carry the malaria parasites and can infect you with them if they bite you. Chloroquine sulphate accumulates in infected blood cells and interferes with essential processes within the malaria parasite.

Dosage for the prevention of malaria,
For Oral use:
Adults: 6 x 5ml spoonfuls taken on same day each week.
Children: 5mg chloroquine
base
per kg of bodyweight.
Take a single dose once a week on the same day each week.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
It is advisable to start taking NIVAQUINE Syrup 1 week before going to a malarious area, continue whilst you are there and for 4 weeks after leaving the area.
Please follow the dose as stated on the pack, allowing for the appropriate time period on return from the malarious region. Ensure precautions are taken to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes; long sleeves/trousers, particularly at dusk time, use DEET repellent sprays, nets, coils etc. Inform your doctor if you feel ill at all within the first year of return, in particular within the first 3 months.
