Spatone is best taken with fruit juice (not grape) since the Vitamin C in fruit juice will improve your body's absorption of iron.

The body's daily need for iron is about 2mg for women and 1-1.5mg for children and men.

However, the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for iron intake is approximately 14mg. This is because the RDA is based on the relatively poor iron absorption from foods (typically only 5-20% of the iron in foods is actually absorbed by your body).

The iron in Spatone is so easily absorbed, you need only take small quantities to get your entire average Actual Daily Iron Requirement. This is how you avoid the common side effects like constipation, stomach irritation and headaches so often associated with taking iron. You see it's not the iron you absorb which causes the side effects, it's the residual amount you're trying to excrete that causes the problems.
Iron supplements can sometimes cause tummy upsets and constipation. Although while taking Spatone this is unlikely, should problems occur tell your healthcare professional (e.g. Doctor, Pharmacist, Midwife). They may suggest you try a combination of the following steps:

Dilute Spatone in water or fruit juice.

Spatone is ideally taken in the morning on an empty stomach diluted in orange juice. Please allow at least 30min or better one hour before having e.g. coffee or tea, or eating breakfast.
